Some Of Petipas Other Works

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXUIOY8uZZk this is a video link to a small section of Swan Lake, this is obviously one of the more up to date versions, but it does contain some of the original choreography by Marius Petipa.

  1. you can tell this is a more upto date version by the style of the tutu's, as back in the romantic ballet period they would have had longer 'bell' tutus as they couldnt be too revealing, also the Ballerinas are all tall and thin which was very different from the day of Marius Petipa wherre they were all small and nowdays for Ballerinas they were all on the bigger side. But you can see some of the aspects from the romantic period of ballet for example the man is mainly just there to turn and lift the prima ballerina primarily, there is a woodland setting (which links to escapism as its magical and mysterious) finally the movement is weightless and flouncy like a fairy. Here we see a romantic pas de duex and the corps de ballet, which is a typical scene in a ballet from the romantic ballet period.
